Areas of Specialization:
Organic and Polymer Chemistry Research Interests: Polymers in organic chemistry, organocatalysis of Mitsunobu, Morita-Baylis-Hillman, and alkyne rearrangement reactions, organoarsine chemistry, polymers for water purification applications, and the chemistry of hydroxy--sanshool and related compounds.  

Research Highlights:
1.  Proposed the existence of two distinct hydroxylating species produced by cytochrome P-450 enzymes(Journal Publication No. 5).  
2.  Developed the commercially available JandaJel® resins for organic chemistry (Journal Publication No.15)
3.  Developed a commercially useful method for the synthesis of triphenylphosphine (Journal Publication No17) functionalized polystyrene resins.   
4.  Developed the first reported catalytic Mitsunobu reaction system (Journal Publication No. 37). 
5.  Developed the concept of multifunctional polymeric organocatalysts (Journal Publications No. 39, 54, 61and 63).
6.  Developed bifunctional polymeric reagents for Wittig reactions (Journal Publications No. 55 and 64) 
7.  Reported the first de novo synthesis of hydroxy--sanshool, the numbing/tingling compound found inSichuan peppercorn (Journal Publication No. 66)
