The project “ Carbonplore -Clean Energy Utilization of Agricultural and Forestry Waste Resources” led by Su Hongyu, an undergraduate student in the team of Biomass Energy and Materials from College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, NWAFU, won the National Gold Award in the Group of Agriculture and Rural Area.

The " Carbonplore " is a project guided by Associate Researcher Zhu Mingqiang and conducted by the team of undergraduate and graduate students ofCollege of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering and the College of Forestry, NWAFU.Supported by the National Key research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Special Fund of National Forestry and Grassland Bureau for the First Group of Top-notch Youth Talents in Scientific Innovation, the project focuses on the pyrolysis and clean utilization of forest biomass resources. The innovation and breakthrough of this project mainly lie in the development of equipment of integrating clean-pyrolytic-carbon-production and a series of supportive technologies, which can targetedly convert the agricultural and forestry waste with comparatively high lignin content, such as grape branches and cotton stalks, into those products like wood activated carbon and wood vinegar, realizing the high value-added utilization of the resources.
