Under the editorship of the Poverty Alleviation Office of the Central Committee, Twenty Cases of the Poverty Alleviation Practice Implemented by the Communist Youth League was recently published by the China Youth Press. In this book, the chapter “Poverty Alleviation and Talent Cultivation: Subject-Based Voluntary Service of the League Committee of the Northwest A&F University” presents the poverty-relief work volunteered by the Communist Youth League(CYL) of NWAFU in Heyang County.
With the advantage of the subjects in agriculture and forestry, the CYL of our university at various levels have been supporting Heyang agricultural industries by science and technology for many years. In the meantime, the CYL also actively engaged in aid-agriculture activities (i.e. symposiums, on-the-spot investigations, industry planning, consulting practice, rural research and aid-education projects) through voluntary service platforms like summer and winter social practice, postgraduate supporting groups, postgraduate voluntary teaching groups, rural surveys in northwest regions, consulting conferences supported by overseas returnees, rural ambassadors and assistant directors of villages. These activities not only tap the potential of Heyang County but also bring about a new situation of reducing poverty on a countywide scale. The chapter is divided into four parts: (1) counterpart cooperation, a new pattern of poverty reduction; (2) agricultural technology, a new model for poverty alleviation; (3) voluntary service, a new solution to local conditions; and (4) investigations and research, a new method for solving problems. Focusing on the poverty-relief work that the leagues have implemented in Heyang, these parts reasonably conclude a new mode of poverty alleviation that is volunteered by youth talents in agricultural and forestry universities, contributing the NWAFU’S thoughts on actively leading youth students to seek truth in practice and making anti-poverty activities a practice platform of developing new-type agricultural talents.
