On the afternoon of January 26th, The 55th Monthly Forum of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) welcomed the famous wheat breeding expert Professor Wang Hui to share his over forty years of wheat breeding experience with the staff and researchers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Prof. Wang started with breeding since the year 1973, under the supervision of China’s wheat breeding expert Zhao Hongzhang. When he launched his independent research, he did not have any research fund or equipment, but he stuck to his business and treated wheat as his "children”. After years of hard and monotonous work, the first new species "Xi Nong 84G6” was eventually nurtured. Since then, eleven new species were nurtured under his supervision, and the accumulated promotion reached 150 million mu with social efficiency of nearly billions of Yuan.

"Breeding is painstaking, but when seeing your research turns into the billowing wheat field and hearing the farmers’excitement for good harvest, I really felt joyful and happy,”Prof. Wang said. Breeding career is bittersweet, "and I have no regret choosing wheat breeding as my career.”
