On November 17th 2016, the main issue of international academic journal Cellpublished a research article entitled “Epigenetic Activation of WNT5A Drives Glioblastoma Stem Cell Differentiation and Invasive Growth”. The first author of the paper, Mr.Hu Baoli, was a NWAFU graduate of 1998 from College of Animal Science and Technology.

The paper revealed the function of glioblastoma stem cell and one critical path in tumor neovascularization, invasiveness, and therapeutic resistance, paving the way for new treatments. After its publication, the paper has received wide attention from media at home and abroad, including a special report from the American Cancer Society's top journal Cancer Discovery. Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM) is the highly lethal and the most common malignant tumor in brain cancer, with the average life expectancy of patients up to only 14 months after discovering the disease, and only 5% of the patients live longer than 5 years. Despite aggressive multi-modality treatment of maximal surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, poor prognosis still results in the near universal recurrence of tumors.
