On December 4th, "China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture”jointly initiated by Northwest A&F University and China Agricultural University was established in Beijing. Former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Ping Da (Counselor Kamzola spoke for the address), UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for South-South Cooperation and Director of the UN Office of South-South Cooperation Jorge Chediek, UN Food and Agriculture Organization Representative in China Vincent Ma, Director of the World Food Programme China Office Qu Sixi, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Agriculture Zhang Lubiao, Sun Qixin and Zhao Zhong, delivered speeches at the inauguration.
"China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture” is the first institution in China initiated and participated by different schools, aiming at relying on the "Belt and Road” mechanism of agricultural cooperation and jointly promoting new types of South-South cooperation so as to make contributions to the building of a community of common destiny for mankind. The Institute will focus on the needs of the country's foreign strategy and the needs of international development, promote new types of South-South agricultural cooperation in agriculture and rural development. With the support of relevant state ministries and commissions, the United Nations and other international agencies, the Institute will promote a new type of South-South agricultural cooperation pattern based on the "Belt and Road” countries by means of building high-end agricultural talents for South-South agricultural cooperation, exchanging and sharing of experiences in South-South agricultural cooperation, South-South agricultural technology demonstration and think tank construction for South-South agricultural cooperation. The Institute is the first new platform in China to promote agricultural cooperation between China and developing countries and is also the first attempt to build an international, comprehensive and practical cross-institution high-end think tank in China.
