On May 31st, in Xiaotian Village, Zhaocun Town, Xingping City, on the side of a thousand acres of "Shaanyou 28” rapeseed, a tracked harvester was pouring freshly harvested rapeseed on a small truck, with many observers next to it applauding and taking pictures. During this period of time, the 367,000 mu of "Shanyou 28” in the country was harvested one after another. Promotion experts estimated that the area of "Shaanyou 28” to be promoted nationwide will exceed 500,000 mu by next year.

"Shaanyou 28” is a new high-quality rapeseed variety cultivated by a team of experts led by researcher Dong Zhensheng, a rapeseed breeding expert in NWAFU, which took eight years to develop. It possesses good qualities such as high yield, high oil content, resistance to lodging, strong disease resistance, and good consistency in maturity. What is even more outstanding is that this variety is suitable for mechanized cultivation and harvesting, which can fundamentally solve the problems of low mechanization level, high labor intensity, high production cost, and low enthusiasm for farmers' cultivation in traditional rapeseed production.

It is possible to plant rapeseed the same way as wheat. In November 2015, "Shaanyou 28” passed the examination and approval of the Shaanxi Provincial Variety Committee and became the first new rapeseed variety suitable for full mechanized production in Shaanxi Province. It is also the only officially approved machine-harvested rapeseed variety in the country.
